But the real shift is happening at the bottom. Recurring giving is quietly outpacing one-time donations. For healthcare nonprofits, only 3% of donors are monthly givers vs. 13% across the entire sector. Many leaders think it's a retention problem. In reality, it's a relationship problem. Monthly donors don't just give more over time. They see themselves differently. They're insiders, not just occasional supporters -- creating a shift from transactional to invested. ✔ They open emails. ✔ They respond to direct mail. ✔ They show up. ✔ They tell friends. One of our clients tested this. They invited 100 one-time donors to join their "Circle of Care" monthly program with quarterly impact updates and a private Facebook group. Within 6 months, their average annual giving doubled, and retention hit 89%. Let's stop treating monthly giving like a checkbox on the appeal and start treating it like the core of your donor community. | 13 comments on LinkedIn, Y Combinator just told legal AI founders to stop selling tools to law firms. Instead, build your own Tech and AI-powered firms and compete directly. They're right. I spent 15 years at a big law firm, built efficiency tools as an associate, and thought law firms would love them so they could work faster. They didn't. And the math is brutal. - Your $5M loan takes 40 billable hours at $800/hr = $32K in legal fees. - Now add AI that cuts it to 25 hours. - You save $12K, which is great for you. - The law firm just lost $12K in revenue, and that's terrible for them. The core of the problem is the law firm revenue model punishes efficiency. The more efficient they get → the less money they make. 👉️ Y Combinator sees that a law firm structured around leveraging technology and not attorney hours is a path to a new economic model that benefits both lawyers and clients who lean in. If these new companies bet on themselves to engineer around inefficiencies then you get a different result for the legal service providers and clients: Technology makes us more efficient → we make more money → you pay less. Everyone wins. ⚡🌴🎉 | 95 comments on LinkedIn, I just read research that made me uncomfortable - 77% of association staff say they can't find qualified volunteers. Mariner surveyed 1,132 chapter leaders across 25 associations, and the gap is brutal. 93% of HQ staff think chapters are great for local connections. But chapter leaders rate their own programming poorly. We're asking volunteers to run meetings when they want to build community. Here's what I'm telling clients now: 👇️ Stop Recruiting for Roles. Start Recruiting for Purpose. Your volunteers don't want another title on their resume. They want to make a real impact and be part of something that matters. When you lead with purpose instead of positions, you attract people who actually care about the mission. 👇️ Forget Robert's Rules and Train Volunteers in Soft Skills People join associations to connect, to grow, and to belong. Teach your volunteers how to build community. Train them in strategic thinking. Show them how to create spaces where people feel like they matter. 👇️ Simplify Governance If your chapter bylaws are longer than your strategic plan, you've got it backwards. Strip away the bureaucracy that's slowing you down and focus on what actually moves the needle. 👇️ Track What Matters Engagement beats event counts every time. Stop measuring success by how many people walked through the door. Start measuring it by how many people came back, brought a friend, or changed their behavior because of what you built. I'll be honest - this research is new to us. But it's the problem most of our clients are dealing with, and these are actionable items we can start implementing today. What's your biggest volunteer leadership challenge right now? | 15 comments on LinkedIn, Apple doesn’t have a C‑level Customer Experience Officer role. Yet most Apple Store customers report consistently high satisfaction. And they retain just over 90% of iPhone users, surpassing most rivals. So what's going on? Many companies think CX = a CX department. Hire a CX leader, install VoC, stand up a team, and... miracles occur. Companies fail here because CX gets treated as the CX teams's job. Because that’s like creating a “Quality Department” and expecting defect-free products — or a “Safety Division” to magically prevent accidents. Companies succeed in safety and quality because they build them into the fabric of how the business operates. CX works the same way. Which is why Apple wired experience it into it's DNA. Teams across the company - from retail to UX to product - operate with a shared understanding of why experience matters. For orgs not doing it the Apple way, I'd start here: → Define what "great experience" means in your org's language, not CX jargon. Apple talks about “enriching lives,” not reducing friction or boosting CSAT. → Tie experience outcomes to the metrics each team already owns. Apple retail, for example, focuses on metrics like return visits and attach rate in addition to satisfaction. → Make experience a leadership expectation. At Apple, design led by Jony Ive reported directly to the CEO, integrating experience at the highest level of decision-making. The goal isn’t to manage CX. It’s to bake it into how your organization operates, just as you’ve done with safety, quality, or financial discipline. Can every team in your org name one thing they own that directly shapes the customer experience? | 19 comments on LinkedIn, ex-professional volleyball player, turned corporate sales leader I played for 15 years. My dad was a Brazilian Olympic athlete. My siblings are USA university head coaches. My kids are slowly learning the game. Sports shaped my operating system. Here's what volleyball taught me about building a sales team: 🏐 You have to pass. Unlike soccer or basketball, where you can take the ball and score, volleyball requires the ball to touch other people. You literally cannot do it alone. 🏐 Feedback is collective. Every time we review performance, it's a shared conversation. No one hides. Everyone grows. 🏐 Good is never good enough. There's always someone out there practicing harder than you, so always be learning. 🏐 You can work 16 hours and still not hit your number. How you wrap your mind around that matters more than the result itself. Those high standards were brutal, but they shaped me into someone who never settles for the bare minimum. And we gotta keep playing... What shaped your operating system as a professional? | 10 comments on LinkedIn, We hear it all the time in the startup world: “Have a bold vision.” But after years in the trenches—building companies, raising capital, helping founders scale—I’ve come to a different conclusion: Vision can only get you so far. The difference between success and failure usually doesn’t come down to the better idea. It comes down to who executes better. Quiet, focused, consistent execution. I’ll give you an example. When I was in college, I wasn’t a great wakeboarder. But I made the Baylor water ski team. Why? I could land a backflip. I didn’t master the basics. I just mapped the shortest line from “newbie” to “backflip” and got laser-focused on making that one thing happen. In startups, I’ve done the same thing. Whether it’s structuring capital for a hedge fund, building a commercial lender from the ground up, or moving international funds through red tape—I’ve always asked: What’s the shortest, most efficient path to the outcome? Then I walked that path without distraction. That’s the founder’s edge: not imagining possibilities but materializing outcomes. We’re all working with a finite set of resources—time, cash, and focus. The founders who win are the ones who deploy those resources with precision. Here’s what I’d challenge you to do: - Identify your superpower. - Sharpen it. - Build your business around it. - Delegate or eliminate the rest. That’s where traction lives—not in the grandeur of your idea but in the tight sequencing of concrete steps that bring it to life. PS - I added an old picture from the glory days (realistically, I probably didn't even land that flip.) PPS - I share thoughts like this one in my newsletter: https://lnkd.in/ew-qaQEB | 21 comments on LinkedIn, Nike’s CFO transformed how everyone thought about their role with one simple question: “𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘦 𝘥𝘰?” ⁣ ⁣ The usual answer: “𝘞𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘴.”⁣ ⁣ His answer: “...𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘰𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘭𝘦𝘵𝘦 (𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳) 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵.”⁣ ⁣ What he was saying: 𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬.⁣ ⁣ This reframing elevated the work beyond products to a higher purpose. Shoes and shirts are just one part of the journey. So are training apps, events that connect communities, and marketing that sparks motivation. At Nike, the mission wasn’t just about selling—it was about 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠.⁣ ⁣ At Spikes, we take a similar approach. We help brands uncover the emotional connections that move their customers, turning transactions into loyalty and inspiration into impact.⁣ ⁣ So, ask yourself: 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰? The answer might just change everything. Gordon Euchler Maik Hofmann Spikes, 🎯 Yes, executives lead through change, but stopping at senior coaching misses the mark. Organizations often approach us to coach senior enterprise leaders who are preparing for or navigating major change initiatives. These leaders recognize the need to upskill rapidly and lead with confidence in dynamic environments—a critical investment. But here’s where many organizations are surprised: When we ask, “What resources are your frontline managers, individual contributors, and project managers receiving?” the response often centers around starting with senior leaders and hoping the learning cascades downward. While valid, this approach can leave significant gaps. Coaching is personal. Change affects everyone differently, and without tailored support at all levels, valuable lessons from senior leadership coaching may not fully resonate or address diverse needs across the organization. That’s why we recommend pairing senior leader coaching with group or team coaching for broader teams. This scalable solution helps: ✅ Build peer-to-peer collaboration and learning. ✅ Uncover new resources and innovative approaches to challenges. ✅ Strengthen team connections and align responses to change. When organizations combine individual coaching for senior leaders with group coaching for frontline teams, they foster a culture of resilience and adaptability, ensuring everyone has the tools to thrive during change. 🌟 How does your organization ensure readiness for change at all levels? Let’s discuss strategies to make leadership development a transformative experience across the board! #LeadershipDevelopment #ChangeManagement #CoachingSolutions #TeamCoaching #FluencePro , Less than 10% of Shopify brands have an A/B testing tool installed. 90% of brands are flying blind. And here’s why it matters: Without an A/B test tool… Improvements take longer. Decisions are made based on opinion rather than data. Outcomes are difficult to evaluate. We once worked with a large brand without an A/B testing tool because of some delay with compliance. We had goals, but without the ability to test, every decision was based on hope and opinion. We eventually got access, and it felt like an accelerant: Faster, incremental wins that drive results. Easier conversations with stakeholders - we let the data decide. Changes happen quickly with conviction. Our goal in 2025 is to get every single one of our clients on an A/B testing tool (currently a big fan of Shoplift). Check out my comment below for some of our other favorite A/B testing tools. | 10 comments on LinkedIn, 🗓️ Goal setting in 2025? One of my coaching mentors, Steve Chandler, taught me a concept that has been transformative. (worksheet included) It's called 'power goaling' and it’s a simple but effective process that connects your aspirations to your deeper values. Here’s how it works: 1. Start with a goal – It could be a financial milestone, a product launch, or a personal aspiration. 2. Explore the goal’s ripple effects... Ask yourself: - How will this goal enhance my sense of fulfillment or self-worth? - How will it benefit my team and align us with a shared purpose? - What impact will it have on my family, community, and the world? Articulating these connections roots your goals in meaning, making them more tangible and energizing. Instead of a checklist item, your goals become a powerful source of inspiration. Want to try it? I have a free worksheet on power goaling on my website: https://lnkd.in/gdt733c6 How do you connect your goals to a deeper sense of purpose? #Leadership #GoalSetting #PurposeDriven #ExecutiveCoaching #PersonalGrowth #Cleantech | 13 comments on LinkedIn, My family and I spent the last couple weeks traveling down the Yellowstone River, and I got a glimpse of the power of “heart and hustle” along the way. While playing by the river, my son lost one of his Croc’s in the current, so without hesitation, I just started running. Five minutes later, I’m halfway downriver, scanning the current to intercept the shoe, but when a couple of rafters saw me sprinting, they paddled back upstream to help me grab it. They said: "We saw him lose the shoe and thought, 'that sucks.' But when we saw you run, we thought, ‘We gotta help this guy.’" They didn’t owe me anything. But heart and hustle pulled them in. It struck me later because this happens in leadership too. Effort is contagious. The human kind. When people see you pushing for something that matters, they lean in. We can’t expect buy-in before we show belief. We can't earn trust without demonstrating care. Sometimes, the fastest way to inspire a team, a partner, or a bystander is to move first. Even if it makes you look a little foolish. When’s the last time your effort changed someone else’s trajectory? | 11 comments on LinkedIn, Every month, my siblings and I get on a call together. We're spread out around the world, so making the time zones work usually means I'm logging in at 4 or 5 in the morning. This past Saturday was one of those calls. Two hours of catching up, checking in, and making sure we're all aligned on how we're caring for our mother. My sisters paved the way for me in so many ways, and now we shoulder that responsibility together. Nobody has to do it alone. I won't pretend 4 AM is easy. But every single time, I hang up and know that it was worth it. Family doesn't wait for a convenient time zone for you. But you make sure you're there every time. That call was a buoy for me this week. I guess sometimes the thing that energizes you most has nothing to do with work. | 27 comments on LinkedIn, I ask about hobbies in interviews. Don't @ me. It's not because I'm trying to hire people I want to hang out with after work. It's because I want to know whether you're a cook or a carpenter. 🎸 Play an instrument? Mistakes happen. Practice daily. Adjust on the fly. You're probably a cook. 🔧 Work on cars? You'd better get each step right before you move onto the next one. Be methodical. Precise. You're probably a carpenter. 🍄 Grow mushrooms? IDK, but this is one of my hobbies. Same thing goes for jobs. 🚀 Wet lab specialist? Manufacturing tech? Programmer? Quick turns. Refinement and repetition every day. Probably a cooking job. 🔬 Assay developer? Mechanical engineer? Logistics lead? Long cycles. Mistakes are expensive. Sounds like a carpenter. Are you a cook or a carpenter? How does it show up in your job? PS - I’m a cook. #Startups #Hiring #LabLife #Engineering #Leadership | 22 comments on LinkedIn, I asked 50 remote work leaders one question: “What’s the biggest mistake managers make in remote environments?” Their answers came down to two critical missteps: ❌ Mistake 1: Assuming minimal connection is enough Quick check-ins don’t build trust. Genuine relationships come from consistent, meaningful interactions. ✅ Managers should prioritize authentic conversations, follow-through, and showing interest in employees’ well-being. ❌ Mistake 2: Forgetting they represent the company’s culture Managers are often employees’ main connection to the organization. Without frequent, intentional touchpoints, employees feel isolated. ✅ Invest in touchpoints that make employees feel part of something bigger than their tasks. Managers are the heartbeat of remote culture. Equip them to lead with connection and authenticity. , For the past couple of years, my time and attention went into what most agency CEOs don't spend much time talking about publicly. Merger work. Recapitalization. Rebrand. Integration. The unglamorous infrastructure required to help a company become one company. But through all of that, one thing didn't change. I have always been, and still am, a practicing CEO. I love working directly on our client's missions and fundraising. I love being in the strategy. I love sitting with nonprofit leaders, helping them solve the toughest problems, and supporting them in shaping the path forward. My title may be CEO, but I have never stopped being Chief Strategy Officer in how I think, how I lead, or how I show up with clients. Over the years, I made a conscious choice to put our team's voice in front of my own. Alyssa Boger driving amazing fundraising strategy and building an incredible team. Whitney Norman on crafting solutions for thriving nonprofit organizations that are thirsting to do more for their mission. Debbie Merlino as a leading voice for Public Media and Liz Lowe on Food Banks. And many others who have spent decades practicing and counseling many of the top organizations in the country to drive breakthrough results across the donor pyramid. They earned that visibility. And honestly, the market needed to hear from them. Now, we're on the other side of a lot of that foundational work. The company has a clear identity. The team is in place. And 2026 feels like the right time for me to share more of my own perspective on behalf of our team, our clients, and the work we get to do with mission-driven organizations at AGP (Allegiance Group & Pursuant). I'm excited to share what I have actually been thinking about for the last 25 years. Capitalistic philanthropy and the human heart of giving. Augmented intelligence and what AI with integrity looks like in our sector. Bridging the gap between for-profit innovation and non-profit adoption. And exploring how agency relationships can deepen with their partners to drive truly extraordinary impact. I'm looking forward to sharing more, learning out loud, and continuing the conversation with people who care about where nonprofit growth goes from here. | 12 comments on LinkedIn, After Bionic Health was acquired, a few people asked me: “Why not take a break?” The truth is, building is what I enjoy the most. With Bionic, I saw firsthand how technology can change lives, but I also saw how easy it is for companies to get lost in the noise of “AI everything.” That’s why I started Automated Consulting Group: To cut through the hype, To build AI solutions that solve real problems, And to help companies capture the practical value of AI, not just the headlines. Over the past decade, I’ve learned that the most meaningful companies I’ve built came from two things: solving my own problems and staying ahead of technology shifts. This time is no different. Here’s why we started it: Another chance for us to do good work with good people. Dear Wanderlust was launched to serve incredible coffee at regattas and surf spots from the source to the sip. → We retrofitted a Kia America Soul. → Branded to the nines. → Operated by my friend and our business partner, a 17-year barista vet. → Fully sustainable. → Our beans are ethically sourced. And every shot of espresso tells a story about what happens when you put people and the planet first. This isn't just coffee. It’s a blueprint for how we would like to do business. ↳ Support the people. ↳ Design for the planet. ↳ Build brands that last. That’s what we do at am__+ brands every day for companies around the world. From purpose-driven nonprofits in Maui to sustainable food brands across the Pacific. Doing good is good business. How are you giving back?, The way GTM teams interact with data is flawed in two ways. ⚡ First, it’s biased by where we choose to look. 🔍 Second, it’s shaped by the questions we decide to ask. This traditional approach limits what GTM teams can achieve—missing opportunities to optimize campaigns, accelerate revenue, and predict what’s next. At Amoeba, we rethought this process: 👉 What if the data told you what mattered most for your pipeline? 👉 What if insights aligned directly with your revenue goals? Our platform shifts the model from ‘asking’ to ‘showing,’ delivering real-time, actionable insights for marketing teams—without the manual effort. It’s time to let the data do the talking. 🌟 How do you interact with your data today? Could your process use a rethink? , Walk into any CX conference in 2025, and 9 out of 10 booths are AI companies. Most didn’t exist a year ago, but now they all promise to solve your problems. If you’ve ever tried to implement new tech in a real contact center, you know: it’s rarely that simple. → Big organizations don’t like change → Technology alone doesn’t fix ops → There’s always a messy middle That’s why at ShyftOff, we're building AI-powered QA and are partnering with AI companies to create a better platform to improve human operations in a contact center. This one-stop solution includes: ↳ The tech that fits your environment ↳ The agents who deliver on it ↳ The operational support to tie it all together Most consumer brands aren’t in the call center business. They need to focus on growth, not worry if someone showed up for their shift - that’s our job. Our goal is to make it easier to operate a contact center, so you don’t have to. What’s your biggest blocker to rolling out new tech?, I dropped out of my MBA program at Babson because a professor told me I was in the wrong place. I'd enrolled at Babson looking for a reset after a few years in the insurance business, and while I was getting frustrated with the program, I met an entrepreneurship professor who listened. When I mentioned that I was reading David Ogilvy's books on advertising, he said: "You want to be a copywriter? Go for it. You don't need an MBA to be a copywriter." So I left. And I went for it. That was 30-some years ago. I've spent every one of them writing copy that has to prove itself. In direct response, there's no hiding behind brand awareness or subjective opinions. The letter either pulls a response or it doesn't. The numbers tell you. Quitting never feels good, but looking back, my professor helped me do the "right" thing and not just the "good" thing. | 19 comments on LinkedIn, After 23 years of marriage and raising three daughters (now 19, 17, and 16), I’ve learned that the values you build at home shape everything you do in business.
